Black-and-white Warbler

Black-and-white warblers are common at Magee Marsh in May, with numbers peaking during the second week of the month.  The only potential confusion is between this species and the blackpoll warbler.  The blackpoll has a solid black cap and yellow legs, whereas the black-and-white has a white stripe through its black cap and has black legs, as well as a prominent white stripe above the eye.  The images below illustrate the plumage of the black-and-white warbler; contrasting these with the sample images on the blackpoll warbler's page will help you to develop a sense for the difference in appearance between these two species.
